Tennis Player Props Explained

How tennis player props work on Payday Fantasy: when a pick is action, how aces, games and break points are counted, and what happens if a player retires or is defaulted.

Payday Fantasy · Product

The short answer: a tennis prop on Payday is a MORE or LESS pick on one player's stat line, like aces or total games won. A pick becomes action once the player plays one official point. If a player retires mid-match, picks settle on what actually happened up to that point.

How tennis props fit into an entry

Tennis picks go into the same entries as the rest of the board. Pick 2 to 10 players from at least two different teams, mix in other sports if you want, and play it as MAX (every pick must hit) or FLEX (you can miss one or two and still get paid).

When a tennis pick is action

A tennis pick becomes action once the player plays one official point. If the player never takes the court, the pick is voided as Did Not Play (DNP).

What happens if a player retires

Once a point has been played, a retirement doesn't void the match. Everything settles on what actually happened:

  • Match winner: the player who didn't retire is graded as the winner.
  • Games: only completed games count. If Player A wins the first set 6–4 and retires at 1–1 in the second, he's graded on 7 games won and the match on 12 games played.
  • Aces, break points and other stats: the official totals at the moment of retirement are final. A player with 4 aces and 2 break points won when he retires is graded on 4 and 2.
  • Sets: a set that wasn't finished doesn't count.

What happens if a player is defaulted

A default is when officials disqualify a player during the match, for example for a code violation. It has its own rule and isn't treated as a retirement. The player who wasn't defaulted is graded as the match winner, and every other prop on that match is voided. If the default comes before the first point, picks on that player are voided as DNP.

Rain delays, suspensions and court changes

Matches can be paused for rain, darkness or heat, or moved to another court or indoors. None of that changes your pick: the match resumes from the exact point where it stopped, and every official stat still counts.

What to check before you lock an entry

  • Is it best of three or best of five sets? The format changes what a normal games or aces total looks like.
  • A retirement settles on the stats so far, so a short match can leave MORE picks short of their line.
  • Games Won and Games Played are different stats: Games Won is one player's games, Games Played is the whole match.

FAQ

What if my tennis player retires mid-match?

The pick settles on the official stats at the moment of retirement, and only completed games and sets count. The opponent is graded as the match winner.

What if the player pulls out before the match?

If he never plays an official point, the pick is voided as DNP and your entry is rechecked with the picks that are left.

Does a match tiebreak count as a set?

Yes. For Total Sets Played, a match tiebreak counts as one set.

Is a default the same as a retirement?

No. After a default, only Match Winner is graded (the other player wins) and every other prop on the match is voided. After a retirement, props settle on the stats so far.

What if rain stops the match until tomorrow?

The match picks up where it left off and your pick stays active. Stats from both days count.
